Prerequisites
Previous to the installation of Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In, the user must verify that the following programs are installed on their machine for the proper functioning of the add-in. If any of these programs are not currently installed, the Junar Add-In will automatically request for the user’s permission to download them from secure servers:
- Microsoft .Net Framework 4
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime
- Visual C++ 2010 Runtime Libraries
- If the installation is to be made under a Windows XP enviroment, additionally it will be needed Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 Client Profile
The install shield will automatically set up, download and install the necessary programs before the installation of the add-in itself. Just follow the assistant that will guide you through the process.
Installing the Add-In
In order to properly install the Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In in your machine, follows this steps:
- Download the Add-In from one of the following links according to your version of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows and decompress it:
- Execute the Setup.exe file. When all the prerequisites are installed, the Setup Wizard will assist you throughout the installation process.
- In the welcome page, press Next in order to start the installation of the Add-In:
- Select the folder of installation and press Next:
- Press Next again to confirm the installation:
- Wait until the assistant finishes the Add-In installation:
- Finally, press Close to leave the assistant:
The last step is the addin activation, just follows this steps:
- Go to "Excel Options", then go to "Add-Ins" and select "Manage: Excel Add-ins" and press "Go":
- Select "Junar Excel AddIn" from the list and press "Ok":
At the end of the process, a congratulation message is shown.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In on your computer and it’s now ready to use.
Use
Obtaining a GUID
In order to invoke and use a Junar data stream in an Excel enviroment, first you need to know the unique identifier of the data stream you want to visualize. This is called a GUID. In order to obtain the GUID follows this steps:
- Go to the data stream detail page. For instance, following this link will take us to a page like this:
- In the right-side menu of the page, you will find the GUID of the data stream (encircled in the image). In this case, the GUID for this data stream is FACEB-STATI-MONTH-AND-BY.
After you’ve obtained the GUID of the data stream you desire, you can input it into the spreadsheed via two different methods: a Formula or using the Ribbon interface.
Use through formulas
Returning a single value
If the selected data stream returns a single cell value, first select the desired input cell, then enter the following formula and press Enter. Automatically Microsoft Excel will look on demand from the Internet through Junar the desired value and it will insert it in the selected cell:

Returning a table
If the selected data stream returns multiple values in the form of a row, a column or a full table, first select a set of cells that match the dimensions of the data stream, then type the Junar function with the corresponding GUID and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter. Microsoft Excel will look from Internet through Junar the desired values and it will insert them the selected cells:
If the set of selected cells are greater than the returned by the data stream, the remaining cells will be filled up with the value #N/A. On the contrary, if the set of selected cells are smaller than the returned by the data stream, the result will be cutted and will display only the data that fits the cell selection.
Using parameters
If the selected data stream contains parameters, the Junar function must be modified in the following way:

Using cells as arguments
If you wish to use the values of cells as arguments, each argument must be written in a cell of separated way and each cell must be formatted previously like text of the following way:
- Select the desired set of cells.
- Click on the selection with the secondary mouse button.
- Select the option Format Cells.
- From the Number tab, select the Text category.
- Finally, press Ok.
Once the cells are configurated and the arguments are written, it must be entered the Junar function in the following way:

Updating the result of one data stream
Whenaver an spreadsheet that contains a Junar function is opened, the valyes calculated for these cells wil be updated in an automatic way from the Internet. In this way, the data showed will be always updated.
In order to manually refresh the result of a data stream, the Junar formula must be edited by pressing F2 and then pressing Enter if the data streams return a single value or Ctrl + Shift + Enter if the data stream return more dan one value.
Use through Ribbon interface
Knowing the interface
After to install the Add-In, a new tab will appear with the name of Junar:
This tab contains by default of four sections:
- Section of LogIn: Is used to enter the system with your Junar account. Eneables the advances serach options and allows you to access to private information.
- Section of Proxy: Is used to configurates the Internet connection through a proxy server.
- Section Search: Contains advanced search options of information, besides it also allows to insert data streams in a visual way.
- Section Top Indicators: Shows relevant information and updated from Internet.
Each section of the interface implements a different funcionallity and has a diferent behavior.
Proxy section
When you are not logged in the system, you will have the option to configure how you will be connected to Internet through a proxy server. Press the button Use Proxy to open the configuration options:
Once you open the proxy configuration area, you will have to indicate the direction of the server in the Host field and the port int the Port field in a mandatory way. In addition, if the server proxy requires authentications, will must be filled the fields User and Pass according to corresponds.
Once you have the server configured, press the Save Changes button to sabe the changes.
This proccess is needed only the first time
LogIn section
By default, when you open Excel the first time you will be logged off. Press the Authenticate button to open the Log In panel:
Once the new windows appear, enter your name and password in the correct fields. Check the Remember Me option if you wish to be loged in by default each time you open Excel and dont have to re-loging.
If you dont have a Junar account, just click in the SignUp link to go to the web page and quickly create an account.
Once the information is entered, just click the Authenticate button to log in. If the information was wrong, you will get an error message. On the contrary, if the information was correct, the window will desappear and the Ribbon interface will be updated:
Once you are logged in, a new options will be enabled. You may:
- Log Off, with the Log Out button.
- Search for public data stream, with the Search button.
- Search for own data streams, with the My Data Streams button.
- Insert economic indicators, by pressing the buttons in the section Top Indicators.
- Get the latest Junar news, by pressing the links in the section Junar News.
Search section
When you are logged in, the advanced search options are eneabled. To search one data stream, press the Search button:
Immediately the search window will appear. In the search box enter the keywords to search the data stream:
In this case, we have searched data streams related to Junar.
To insert the data stream, first select it and then click in Insert. You wil get a message indicating that the Add-In is inserting the data stream:
Note: Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In inserts the data directly from the Internet. This means that if you have an slow conecction, the insert time could be bigger. Also, is possible that for a short period of time the inferface gets “freeze” and dont respond. If this happend, just wait a bit while the Add-In insert the data stream:
Also exist the option to previsualize the data stream before insertng it. This step will be obligatory for those data stream that need parameters, since these are due to specify previously:
In order to previsualize a data stream, first select it form the list and then press the Preview button to access to the list of parameters:
Then enter the necessaty parameters so that data stream return the correct Informacion and press Preview. A message will appear to indicate that the data stream is being created:
Note: Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In searches the data directly from the Internet. This means that if you have a slow conecction, the insert time could be bigger. Also, is possible that for a short period of time the inferface gets “freeze” and dont respond. If this happend, just wait a bit while the Add-In create the data stream:
Once the data stream is created, the information that will be inserted will be displayed so you can check it. If the data stream shows the desired information, Press Insert to insert the data stream in Excel. A message will appear to indicate that the data stream is being inserted:

Thus the data stream looks like once it was inserted.
Uninstall
To uninstall Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In follow this steps:
The first step is the addin deactivation, just follows this steps:
- Go to "Excel Options", then go to "Add-Ins" and select "Manage: Excel Add-ins" and press "Go":
- Deselect "Junar Excel AddIn" from the list and press "Ok".
At the end of the process, a congratulation message is shown.
Then,
- Open control panel.
- Open the uninstaller program assistant.
- Select Junar MS Excel Add-In from the list of programs.
- Click in Uninstall.
- Wait until the program uninstall the Add-In and close automatically.
Problem solving
Junar Microsoft Excel Add-In files in use
If uninstalling the Add-In displays the following error:
Close all the Microsoft Excel windows opened and press Try Again.
The data stream responds #N/A
If using one data stream you get this result:
Check this options:
- Check the formula: Make sure the formula is =junar(“GUID”), according to described in section #Use through formulas.
- Check the GUID: Make sure that the GUID used is correct, according to descibed in section #Knowing the GUID.
- Check the data stream is working: Make sure that the data stream is correctly working in the system, going to the detaill page of that data stream and checking the returned data, according to described in section #Use through formulas.
